Key Information (2027)
Questions related to primary section only
Q1 Will the primary section increase its primary 1 intake when it becomes co-educational?
The primary section will become co-educational in 2027. To meet the demands of interested parents, the school will increase its Primary 1 intake by two classes, or 60 students, from 2027. The Primary 1 registration process remains the same as in previous years, and no quota will be set for either gender. Please refer to the MOE website to understand the Primary 1 registration process at https://www.moe.gov.sg/primary/p1-registration. There are currently no plans for the secondary section to become co-educational.
Q2 Can I transfer my older daughter to MSHS (Primary) if my younger daughter gets P1 admission in 2027?
Our transition to co-education will happen progressively, year by year. In 2027, only Primary 1 classes will be co-educational, with Primary 2 to Primary 6 classes remaining all-boys as these students complete their primary journey with us. It will therefore not be possible to transfer older daughters to our school. However, siblings born in 2021 or later will be able to join our co-educational environment in future years.
Q3 Do you offer a Parent Volunteer programme for P1 registration priority?
We do not have a Parent Volunteer scheme for Primary 1 registration purposes. However, we warmly welcome parents of enrolled students to join our vibrant parent volunteer community and contribute to our school's continued excellence.
Q4 Which address is used for P1 registration distance calculations?
The permanent site of the school (i.e. Mount Vernon) will continue to be used to determine the Home-School Distance (HSD). HSD is calculated based on the shortest distance from any point on the School Land Boundary (SLB) to the registrant’s official residential address (based on the approved building footprint). With the rebuilding of the school, there may be changes to the SLB which is used for determining the HSD.
Members of the public can use the Singapore Land Authority’s (SLA’s) OneMap SchoolQuery to check the HSD of an address for the upcoming P1 Exercise. Once information on new residential and school developments are confirmed, they will be updated annually by June into the SLA OneMap SchoolQuery, for the purpose of that year’s Primary One Registration Exercise.
Q5 Will there be changes to the school uniform in 2027?
Please refer to the figure below for the new school uniform for girls (white top with blue skorts). We will also be changing the PE attire to one with a Mandarin collar. Existing students may continue to wear the current PE attire or purchase the new one. The new uniform will be available for purchase at the end of 2026.
Q6 Is the school providing student care service in the morning for the P1 and P2 Marists?
To support parents, the school will provide full-day student care service (i.e. 7.00 a.m. – 7.00 p.m.) for primary Marists while we are at the holding site.
Q7 Will school bus services be available to and from the holding site?
School bus services will operate to and from the holding site. The school will work with the transport vendor to ensure the needs of students for both morning and afternoon sessions are catered for during the period at the holding site.
Q8 How will the school adapt the curriculum for the new co-educational environment?
About 80% of our teachers are female, and more than 70% of all teachers have taught in a co-educational primary school. Parents can be assured that the school is ready to welcome girls into the school.
While we continue to follow MOE's comprehensive primary curriculum, we are excited to enhance our school curriculum to cater to the learning and developmental needs of both genders and build an inclusive learning environment for all. We will review our co-curricular activities and enrichment programmes to ensure they reflect the diverse interests, needs, and talents of both boys and girls. Detailed plans will be shared in 2027.
Q9 How will your discipline approach evolve for co-education?
Our discipline framework will maintain the same high standards while we adapt our approaches to support positive interactions among all students. We will continue to follow MOE guidelines, focusing on developing empathy, building mutual respect, and pro-social skills that will serve students well beyond school and fostering an environment where every child can thrive and develop strong character. Our successful school-wide anti-bullying programme, Stop!t@MarisStella, will continue to be an important aspect of our discipline approach.
Questions related to both primary and secondary sections
Q1 What will school hours be like from 2027 to 2029?
The primary section will operate as a partial single session for the three years at the holding site. This is because the holding site is unable to accommodate all primary Marists at the same time, even if we do not increase our intake. Primary 1 and Primary 2 Marists are in the afternoon session because they do not have CCAs. Additionally, having Primary 1 and Primary 2 Marists in the afternoon session will help to ease the girls into the school, as the other levels are all boys.
· P1 and P2 students: 12.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
· P3 to P6 students: 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.
· S1 to S4 Marists: 8.00 a.m.
The later start time for secondary Marists gives them more time to sleep and travel. The primary section will revert to a full single session when we return to Mount Vernon.
Q2 Will there be changes to the CCAs offered?
The primary section will review our CCAs in the next few years to make sure that we cater to the developmental needs and interests of girls. Existing CCAs may be closed or merged and new CCAs may be opened.
As the secondary section is not turning co-educational and there is also no increase in enrolment, we are careful not to start new CCAs which may compete with existing CCAs for members and facilities. However, the secondary section has started a Chess interest group in 2025, and if the interest amongst students is sustained, we may offer it as a CCA in the near future.
Q3 Will the holding sites be renovated?
We are currently renovating the both holding sites to ensure that they are conducive for learning when we move in. Besides applying a new coat of paint, we will also returf the school field, replace the floor tiles of the parade square, and more. These improvements will ensure that the campuses are conducive for learning.
Q4 How are the holding sites better than the heritage site?
The holding site has many facilities that the heritage site does not enjoy. For example, both holding sites have a school field, an indoor sports hall, and sheltered courts. The staff room and library are centrally located and more convenient for students to meet teachers for consultation or to self-study. The holding site for the primary Marists have an auditorium and the classrooms are the holding site for the secondary Marists are 30% bigger.
Q5 How will school leadership work across both sites?
Vice-Principals and Key Personnel serve only at one section. While the Principal and Vice-Principal (Administration) oversee both the primary and secondary sections, the proximity of the two holding sites facilitates efficient movement between locations when necessary.
